In honor of Mother’s Day being just around the corner, we’ll be sending a weekly newsletter jam-packed with empowering education about natural solutions for sensitive and debilitating Women’s Health topics. Our goal is to inform the women we love so they can heal these problems naturally, feel great and enjoy their lives to the fullest!
Our first topic today is all about avoiding leakage, pesky pads, getting back on that trampoline and not having to worry about where the nearest bathroom is at all times… Yes please!
Urinary Incontinence (aka Leakage):
- What it is: Many women leak with running, jumping, coughing, sneezing, lifting or even just daily activities. This is SUPER common after having kids or even just in middle age, but it’s NOT NORMAL. And most importantly, this can be easily fixed, you don’t have to live with this problem my friends!
- What causes it and how to fix it naturally: Muscles control these functions in your body too! Sometimes the pelvic floor muscles need to be strengthened, stretched, trained to be quicker or to have better coordination or sometimes we need to address our bathroom habits to train our bladder. A skilled Women’s Health Physical Therapist will assess these components and help create a treatment plan. John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release and Viseral Manipulation can also be helpful to gently decompress the muscles and connective tissues in this region to take pressure off of the bladder.
Urinary Urgency, Overactive Bladder (OAB), “Key in the door Syndrome” or “Front Door Syndrome”
- What it is: This happens when someone experiences a full voiding (full emptying) of the bladder when they just arrive home, are about to open their door or the bathroom door, when water is running etc. Yikes! No fun my friends.
- What causes it and how to fix it naturally: With whatever this external trigger is, the bladder fully empties (the bladder is actually a muscle so it squeezes with any of these triggers and this creates the problem). Despite this being HUGELY inconvenient much of the time, it’s actually relatively easy to fix with strengthening the pelvic floor muscles to block the flow of urine and teaching the individual how to retrain their bladder with some of their different bathroom habits, behaviors, how to stop the bladder from squeezing at inappropriate times, etc.
Most women are surprised that Physical Therapy can be helpful for these conditions, were you?
It’s really a shame this isn’t talked about more. Imagine all the things the women we love could enjoy in their lives without these annoying problems… no pads, worrying about leaking, planning their lives around the nearest bathroom, worrying about pain with intimacy with their partner, struggling with annoying hip/back/pelvic pain that limits their ability to be active… Instead, just enjoying life and not worrying about any of these things.
At Balance Within PT, we have a ton of success resolving these issues with natural treatments… No surgeries, pain meds or pads which just treat the symptoms! Just highly specialized Physical Therapy to address the ROOT CAUSE of the problem.
Bottom Line: You don’t have to live with this! It can be fixed quite easily with PT hooray!
Thanks so much for listening, I hope this helps you or a special lady in your life. Please do forward this on to someone if you think this knowledge could help, you may just change their life and who knows… they might even thank you with an invitation to jump on that trampoline again! 🙂
With lots of love and possibility,
