Hey there Mom,
Does your back hurt? Do you have pain in your hips or shoulders? Does your neck ache from the seemingly non-stop newborn/baby feedings? Is your posture sagging with all your everyday activities?
As a mother, you know how moving with your baby can cause aches and pains. From lifting to bending and even just sitting – your body is moving in new ways and that can cause discomfort and pain. We hear from many of our clients that everyday pain is unfortunately an everyday occurrence. Well, the good news is it doesn’t have to be that way. The Balance Within team have put together some helpful tips to ease your aches and pains. These tips provide recommendations on moving safely with your bundle of joy.
Everyday Moving
You move around alot throughout the day. Caring for a newborn or a growing toddler can wreak havoc on your back, hips and neck. Bending over to change the baby, putting your baby down for a nap, feeding and even carrying your baby around all day can wear a mom down on any given day. We hear from moms all the time that they are feeling hunched over and feeling frumpy and aching from the everyday tasks. Dr. Megan has put together some helpful tips to assist with any aches and pains that you may be feeling.
Video with tips for Safe Mommy Movements
In the following video, Dr. Megan shows you four tips to move safely with your baby.:
- Tip #1 – Hold your baby over your midline when possible. This will help balance your baby’s weight across your body – easing any back or hip pain that you may be feeling/.
- TIp #2 – Bend at the knees when placing your baby in a crib or bassinet. This will reduce the pressure on your lower back. Your lower back provides major support to your entire body and this tip can be a huge game changer for your posture and overall comfort.
- Tip #3 – Use a pillow when feeding your baby. This tip applies to both bottle feed and breast feed babies. Bringing your baby to you with additional height rather than you hunching over to feed your child will create a more relaxed posture and a more comfortable position.
- Tip #4 – Scooch forward, engage your core and use your legs to stand up when holding your baby. This will aid in helping your back and hips as you move out of a charr.
These tips can assist your body and your posture to make moving with your baby less awkward and painful. You don’t want to create more issues for your body like neck/back/headache symptoms to even issues with your shoulders, hips, knees and feet too!
Focusing on a few small areas can provide a great improvement in your posture and how your body feels as you begin caring for your new baby and your post pregnancy body. While these are a great place to start, there are so many more tips and tricks as well as natural exercises & hands on treatments that we specialize in so we can help you make sure you don’t develop any additional aches and pains along the way!
