Aside from the occasional emotional “pain in the neck," if you have poor posture, bad sleep habits, or spine problems, you may experience a stiff neck, shoulders, or headaches, which can lead to other painful symptoms of your cervical spine.
The question of why you experience neck pain can have a variety of answers. It could be the way you sit at work, how you sleep, how you positioned your head for an extended period while star-gazing, or by getting rear-ended in an auto accident. While you normally don’t notice your neck in action, when it is in pain, your neck becomes a very noticeable body part.
No matter what the cause of your neck pain, gentle releasing of the fascia of the neck and shoulders will likely give you relief and assist in the healing of the tissues involved in supporting your head. Further therapies such as strengthening and education on posture and body mechanics will help prevent future neck and shoulder pain.
